Moss Glen Falls is located in Stowe, Vermont – not to be confused with Moss Glen Falls in Granville, Vermont. This waterfall is in C.C. Putnam State Forest.

There is a gravel parking lot off the eponymously named road with room for approximately 10 vehicles. Visitors can check out the falls for free. It is a relatively easy quarter-mile hike but there is a short uphill climb at the end.

Follow Moss Glen Brook upstream from the parking lot. The flat path is a mix of wooden boardwalks and dirt footpath. It was heavily overgrown but easy to make our way.

We found a beaver dam and two trees gnawed through. Sadly, we didn’t spot any beavers. There were some frogs in the water as well.

The trail will come to a fork – up to the left for a front-view of the waterfall or to the right along the edge of the brook to the base of the falls within the gorge. We took the uphill climb. This path involves avoiding roots while navigating a couple switchbacks.

We got the perfect view from the trail’s end! Watch your step, it is a rocky overlook with a sharp drop-off. Moss Glen Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in Vermont at 125 feet, and you can see the longest portion from here.

For those looking for a longer hike, the trail continues another 1.5 miles on an old logging road.

We stayed that night at Tälta Lodge Bluebird – a boutique recreation lodge. For dinner we ate at The Bench. The food was delicious! I recommend the mac and cheese appetizer and the meatloaf dinner. Go early – As with all the other restaurants nearby, the parking lot filled up fast.
