Sable Falls is a 75-foot waterfall in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is on the eastern edge of the lakeshore near Grand Marais, Michigan.
The waterfall has its own parking area off highway H-58. H-58 runs along Pictured Rocks and many other lakeshore attractions, including several waterfalls, are along this highway.
It is only a quarter-mile trail from the lot to a staircase leading to the falls. There are 168 steps down to the viewing platform. Unfortunately, there is no universally accessible way to view the falls.
The first platform has the best view in my opinion. It is a lovely three-tier waterfall! You get a nice clear view. Only a handful of other hikers were around and for several minutes we had the platform to ourselves.
Then there are a few more stairs leading to the next platform, which gives you a view of the waterfall from farther down Sable Creek.
After the second platform, the trail takes another short walk to rocky Sable Falls Beach where the creek flows into Lake Superior. Here you also get a view of Grand Sable Dunes as well.
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is full of waterfalls, and this was one of my favorites! If you are visiting Pictured Rocks, don’t overlook Sable Falls.
It looks absolutely fabulous!
I have seen a few of your recommendations and find you are more than accurate. Sable Falls looks like one I must try next year.
