Silver Cascade is a roadside waterfall in Crawford Notch State Park. It is in the White Mountains and White Mountain National Forest. Silver Cascade Brook drops hundreds of feet down the side of Mount Jackson toward Route 302. You can see about 250 feet from the road although it extends much higher up the hillside. If you take a mountain view ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad, you might see the full height of the falls.
There is no fee to visit. Just park at one of two large parking areas across the highway from the falls – one directly opposite and one slightly farther up the road. A small sign is just before the waterfall, but it is hard to see from the road. No worries though, you can easily see the waterfall and don’t need it.
Silver Cascade
Cautiously cross the road to see the waterfall up close. The sky was gray and dark with clouds. It was truly raining on us at this point, so we enjoyed Silver Cascade quickly before hustling back to the car.
There is a very narrow place to stand along the highway behind a guardrail. During high traffic, be careful of vehicles passing close by.
For another popular waterfall in the park, continue west on Route 302 to see Flume Cascade, not to be confused with The Flume which is also in New Hampshire.
Many more waterfalls are found in Crawford Notch State Park that are less than a mile walk if you have time for some short hikes.
If you are looking for a longer hike, you can trek to the summit of Mount Jackson or Mount Webster on the Webster-Jackson Trail. You can hit both on a 6.5-mile loop using the Webster Cliff Trail to connect them. The trailhead is less than half a mile from Silver Cascade.
I’ve done a lot of camping trips and have been to Crawford State Park. I’ve also seen the Flume and highly recommend the entire area. Thanks for bringing up a lovely memory.
