Marshall Point Lighthouse is a beautiful lighthouse accessible by a walkway.

It is free to visit. You can tour the grounds until sunset. Parking is available nearby in a medium-sized parking lot. While the grounds are open to the public, the lighthouse is not.

Established in 1832 on a granite foundation, this light station is at the entrance of Port Clyde Harbor. It was originally a 20-foot tower, but the current 31-foot cylindrical tower replaced it in 1857.

Marshall Point Lighthouse overlooks Muscongus Bay and Penobscot Bay at the point of St. George Peninsula. It is an active lighthouse for the U.S. Coast Guard.

In additional to the bay views, we saw ring-billed gulls, herring gulls, and cormorants.

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump quote about running

In the movie, Forrest Gump completed his cross-country run on this lighthouse’s walkway. I was able to stand where Tom Hanks stood!

That night we stayed at the Mount Battie Inn. I booked us in a bay-view room, so our room was up higher on the hill to get the best views.

Dale suggested the Whale’s Tooth Pub for dinner and warned that it got busy early. We got one of the last spaces in the parking area as the sun was setting. The food was delicious!
