There are four waterfalls on the Little River in DuPont State Recreational Forest – Bridal Veil Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls, and Triple Falls. There are three additional waterfalls in the forest – Grassy Creek Falls, Merry Falls, and Wintergreen Falls.

Many of these are popular trails in the forest so be prepared for crowds and arrive early or start late to get a parking spot.

Hooker Falls

Start at the Hooker Falls access area parking lot, take the right fork and follow signs for Hooker Falls Road. The gravel trail wanders about a quarter mile from the lot to the waterfall base.

Hooker Falls is a beautiful 15-foot waterfall that gently pours over the wide edge of the river. Here the current is not too strong, so visitors are able to venture into the pool and swim in good weather.

Triple Falls

From the parking lot, take the left fork and follow signs for Triple Falls for about half a mile.

The Triple Falls overlook is just along the left of the trail, identified only by a wooden post-and-rail fence. From here you can see all three levels of the 120-foot waterfall.

Triple Falls from overlook

If you continue on the path, you will pass a couple of spur trails before hitting a wooden staircase which will take you down closer to the waterfall. The stairs take you to a viewing area on a flat rock at the base of the second falls.

After enjoying this spectacular sight, take a left at the top of the stairs to resume the trail to High Falls. See more photos of Triple Falls and learn about trail.

High Falls

From Triple Falls, continue half a mile uphill on the trail. You will hit the High Falls Loop Trail. Turn left for the shortest route to the overlook.

Before you reach the overlook, there is a 1/3-mile spur trail to the left which will take you to the base of the 150-foot waterfall.

Head back up to the main trail and then turn left to view High Falls from the overlook. You can also catch a glimpse of the covered bridge on Buck Forest Road.

Grassy Creek Falls

For this waterfall, continue the trail from High Falls or start from the High Falls parking lot. Head toward the covered bridge. After the bridge, continue on Buck Forest Road. Turn left on Lake Imaging Road. Then take another left on the Grassy Creek Falls Trail.

Grassy Creek will be to your left. After heading down some stone steps, the trail access drops you at the top of the waterfall. Here the creek flows down small cascades.

Grassy Creek Falls

If the flow is low, you can carefully make your way on rocks along the creek’s edge to get to the middle of the falls. It gives you a better perspective of the waterfalls’ 50-foot length.

From the High Falls access area, it is 1.5 miles to Grassy Creek Falls. See more photos of Grassy Creek Falls and learn about trail.

Bridal Veil Falls

From Grassy Creek Falls, return to Buck Forest Road and head back toward the covered bridge. Turn left on Conservation Road (or right coming from the bridge). From Conservation Road, go 1.1 miles and turn right on Bridal Veil Falls Road.

There is a viewing platform along the trail to see the upper and lower section of Bridal Veil Falls, 120 feet in all. Once you reach the waterfall, only the lower portion is easily seen.

Bridal Veil Falls

From the High Falls access area, it is 2.3 miles to Bridal Veil Falls. See more photos of Bridal Veil Falls and learn about trail.

Wintergreen Falls

This waterfall tends to be less crowded as it is separated from the other more popular falls in the forest. Park at the gravel Guion Farm access area.

Follow the trail toward the meadow and away from the farm. Turn right on Tarkiln Branch Road. Then, turn left on the Wintergreen Falls Trail.

When you reach Grassy Creek, head uphill / upstream on the trail to your left to view the falls. To face Wintergreen Falls, you will need to climb up some boulders at the end of the trail.

Wintergreen Falls

It is 1.7 miles from the parking lot to the waterfall. See more photos of Wintergreen Falls and learn about trail.

Merry Falls

Merry Falls is a roadside waterfall just outside the Forest. From DuPont Road/Staton Road, turn right on Cascade Lake Road which turns to gravel. Merry Falls is about 2 miles down the road on the left.

You can see the upper falls from the road. A few steps down from the road, there is a small area to view the main falls. To see the full waterfall, you will need to make your way down the bank. The rough trail is short but very steep.
